I want to remove my oil tank on my 99 60hp Mercury. Does anyone have the the steps to do this. I want to remove it because my son has the same motor an his went out and he had to overhaul his motor. Thanks

Not an outboard guy but seen this question many times. In searching the net there appears to be two ways, remove it all, and bypass. There are kits out there for removing and most say it is easy and straight forward. The other method is to loop the oil hose to circulate the oil thru the tank only. This way stops the oil injection but the motor doesn't know it.

Hope an OB guy comes along, but I just searched on "Mercury outboard oil tank removal"

I guess you have a fairly late model 60. I did it to a fairly late model 90. follow the oil tube from the tank toward the fuel line Y. The pump is between the two. Unscrew it and pull whatever hose you need to pull to get it out. Grasp the gear and pull it and it's accompanying shaft out, looking for any loose parts like shims or washers or what have you ......I had none. Put the pump back in and fill your tank with 1 pt to 6 gal.....50:1. Go boating. I came up before the onboard oilers and premix is all you had so I got used to it. This last engine of mine got me out of the habit so I wrote on the transom near the fill port to add oil....before I had a senior moment and forgot.
