I am rebuilding a pontoon boat for family fishing. What do I use to remove the old carpet and glue? Also what is best to remove old stripes? Boat has an aluminum floor.

Angle Grinder with a 8" adapter......8" 32-64 grit paper and get to grinding....saftey glasses and a mask...;)

A personal opinion do not waste your money or time with solvent's you have far to much area and product to remove

Never tried the grinder approach, but acitone works wonders...

You can get a gallon at Home Depot for about $15. Spray it on heavily, let soak, remove carpet.

careful with the fumes, and wear rubber gloves. Acitone is brutal stuff.

Don't worry too much about removing the old glue, as long as it's not going to make huge lumps in your carpet. Knock down the REALLY high areas with a putty knife or gasket scraper, and glue right over the old stuff.

No getting around it, it's a LOT of work.

If I had it to do over again, I'd spray it down with a rubberized bedliner, and put snap-in carpets over it.
