Hello,

I've registered my new used boat and it's time to remove the old boat registration and put my new one on. I Googled "How to remove old lettering" and got the trick of a hair dryer, well that only removed the reflective part, now how do I remove the remainer of the lettering without damage?

WD-40, Goo Gone, Carb/Brake Cleaner with a Plastic scaper and an old rag. Use the plastic stapper to get off all of the vynyl you can, then the WD-40, etc. can be used with the rag to get all of the remaining adhesive off of the hull...

WD-40 or Carb cleaner won't hurt the hull or the paint/bondo? Next question, the previous owner got happy with the bottom paint and painted the Humminbird transducer, how can I remove the bottom paint off that device?

Should not hurt anything. I have use it to remove vynyl stickers off of anything from boats to cars (chrome bumpers and painted surfaces) football helments, glass, you name it. Do not let the solvent sit long, but use it as extra elbow grease to breakup the adhesive and help wipe it away easier...

I use an Astro Eraser Wheel in a powerful drill.

Use a heat gun not a hair drier. You can get them from NAPA and they work great on heat shrink when doing wiring work. If that dosen't work and you still have to use some type of solvent I would suggest not spraying it directly on the boat but spray it onto a rag and then press the soaked rag onto the lettering. I just replaced all the lettering on my boat and the heat gun did the trick easily.

I removed old registration decal glue using WD-40 and elbow grease. Worked very well.

This is how you are SUPPOSED to do it. I've bought numerous boats that I needed to strip the numbers off of and re-number, this by far works the best. (there are various brands, the 3m wheel is the best one though, you can get it at pretty much any auto parts store in the paint/pinstripe areas)
