Hey all,

I am the proud new owner of a Lowrance LCX-26c HD Fish finder/GPS combo unit.

It is replacing the Humminbird 727 I had at the helm before. I am moving the 727 up to the bow, and will mount the transducer on the trolling motor.

As for mounting the Lowrance transducer... What do you do with the holes from the Humminbird transducer?

I may or may not be able to use 1 of the holes from the humminbird transducer.. The Dealer that installed it, placed the transducer about 1" to the left of one of the strakes.

Lowrance suggests installing the transducer atleast 1" away from the engine's lower unit, but as low in the water as possible, on a deep vee hull those 2 statements contridict each other. The further away from the lower unit the higher it will be.

Any help is apperciated.

Thanks,

-TheChad

Use 3M 5200 to seal the hole(s) and install the new one in the appropriate area....

Wow.

That Sucked.

I guess Bwalker has DirectWay, which has Dynamic IP's and he used IP Rec. on his login. So when I came to the website, it auto logged me in as Bwalker since my IP was the same.

I turned it off for him. LOL

Anyway...

Thanks for the reply Rick.

So Just put Silicone into the holes and that's it? That is safe?

I have some Boating Life Marine Calk. I assume that will work?

Thanks,

When I fill holes I use West System epoxy with some filler material like coloidal silica. To me it is a more permanent fix.

Marine-Tex! You want to fill the hole, not patch it up with a sealer.

I was in the same situation a couple of weeks ago, replacing my Hummingbird transducer and speed sensor with my Lowrance transducer. I didn't like the idea of just the 3M sealant so, I put the sealant on the screws that were being used by the transducer and speed sensor and just screwed them back in. Fortunately, I was able to use two of the existing holes for my new transducer. So far, no leaks.

Good luck.................Leed:)

It is not the leaks you are worried about since the screws normally don't go through the entire transom. It is the water getting into the wood core of the transom which will cause future rot.

Exactly! Which is also probably one of the single most espensive repairs.

So I need some sort of Marine Epoxy?
