removing propshaft gearcase seal

i have a 1974 mercury 500 4cylinder and the seal on the prop shaft infront of the bearing is stuck in there. <br /><br />how can i remove this? i have the whole thing apart except this seal is in there somehow. can someone please give me a howto on removing and installing a new seal? <br /><br />Thanks! -Neil

Slide hammer, 3 jaw inside puller. Lots of patience.<br /><br />The new seals go in 'back-to-back'. One stops oil getting out, the other stops water getting in. Use some flange sealer around the outer edges (of the seals) and put some grease between the seals before you put the carrier back in the housing, stops the seals from burning.<br /><br />Chris.......
