I opened the cowl on my '00 Honda 40 and noticed a bit of rust and corrosion on a few of the bolts and metal pieces on the back rear of the engine. (Id be more specific on the actual parts, but thats irrelevant right now). Anyways, the engine was stored for the last 6 months with a cover over the cowl. (Son born in January so my toys had to wait :) )Apparently, humidity built up because it wasn't vented properly and some of the parts started to rust. Why Honda would put zinc plated parts in an outboard is beyond me

My question, if I remove the rust with a dremel tool, is there something I can apply to the bare metal parts that will prevent it from coming back?...some type of sealer or something?

Thanks,
Nav

Dremmel and paint with engine paint.I would look for a leak though. It is highly unlikely that poor ventilation would cause any corrosion at all.Unless of course you put the motor away without cleaning it first. You should clean the motor and spray it with a light film of corrosion buster before you store it. charlie
