Seems silly but for changing plugs on this 4-cyl 165hp Merc engine, do i really have to remove the exhaust riser to get the clearance I need? it's a 5/8" plug and my socket is just the size of the plug so no extras there... I guess I've been lucky with my cars and they've always been decent to access. Any suggestions on a special tool? Even the wobble extension/joint wouldn't fit.

Background:
I have a 1987 Four Winns 170 Candia deck boat with a 165hp Merc inline-4/224cid engine, with a close cooling system and an Alpha One Gen I outdrive. Serial numbers as follows:
- Mercruiser Drive Unit Serial #: 0B701774
- Mercruiser Engine Serial #: B731211

Nope. What you need for #2, 3 @ 4 is a plug socket with a hex top. Slip the socket on the plug and use an open end or box wrench on the top of the socket (best to do it cold ouch:eek:). Be careful you don't drop #4 behind the engine, a pain to get back out LOL:facepalm:
