Alright well I'm trying to remove the stainless ring inside the thermostat housing so I can fit the rubber seal inside. How do I do this? What is it that's holding the stainless ring in there? Is it just pressed in there? I was thinking of using one of those hack saw type things so I can cut it out. The starboard side head doesn't have this ring in there. It's way too stiff to fit in there with the ring inside ther. So what is keeping the stainless seal inside the housing? This is a VJ140TLEID johnson outboard motor. 1991 model. 140hp.

Grind a split in it with a grinding bit on a dremel tool....
