How hard is it to pull the starter out of 1990 L-Drive 120hp? I don't have the manual (yet, it's on it's way). Could anyone post steps on how to remove it.

Thanks.

Re: Removing STARTER.

AK47,

So the starter turned out to be bad on your motor. How did you determine it to be the starter? Now to remove the starter if it is like my Evinrude outboard, you need to remove the positive battery cable end from the battery so you don't accidently have sparks when removing that starter. Remove one end of the wire from the starter side going from the solenoid big terminal and you might have to remove the solenoid enough to get to the starter mounting bolts which mine have 3 mounting the starter to the motor and then remove starter motor. Then installing starter is reverse of the steps I just decsribed. hope this makes sense for you, Is your motor a inboard/outboard type?

Re: Removing STARTER.

Never mind. I just got it off in five minutes.

When I tried to start the motor the starter would not rotate or rotates very slow. My battery is less than a year old and was freshly charged. The connections are all cleaned. I did manage to start it once, but it won't start after that and the starter's flywheel is stuck in the up position. So I'm going to take it to an auto store and see if they can test it. If it is bad should I rebuild it or get a new one?
