Hello all,
My 1985 Rinker with an I/O OMC 3.8L V6 would not turn over at the beginning of this season and now I have narrowed down the issue to the starter. I believe that the flywheel is stuck and I need to remover the starter and have it checked. However in the removal process the bolts that I need to remove the 1 shorter one and the 1 longer one, the shorter one gives me no room to get me wrench in to turn it and how to get to the longest one on the bottom of the stater I haven't even begun to think about how I will get there. Any advise is appreciated I'm searching for a skinner 9/16th wrench for the short one and still pondering on the long one. Thanks for any advice at all!

Re: Removing Starter

A 9/16 socket will work. It takes some wiggling to get it on due to the plate that guards the fly wheel it. It may be easier to use a 12 point socket

Re: Removing Starter

hit the selectrim - lift the front of the engine as high as it will go

the longer bolt doesn't have to fully clear and come right out - it can stay with the starter as you lift the starter out

I love these for working on boats:
