Thought I would document what I did to remove a stuck bell housing from my latest project boat. (1990 Glastron with Volvo Penta AQ131 or 230A engine and SP-A outdrive).
With water in the bellows and everywhere else - and sitting for several years... pretty much everything has been harder than it should be on this boat.
I was finally able to remove the upper gear box. The driveshaft was stuck - using a come along I pulled and put pressure on the driveshaft and was able to tap the end of the shaft in the bell housing. It finally pulled off.
I was able to then remove the six bolts holding the clamping ring and remove the engine. But the bell housing would not come off no matter what! Here's what I was able to finally do: I pulled it off far enough so I could spin it around. I drilled a hole into the bell housing and was able to then remove the bolts holding the coupler onto the flywheel. Here's some pics:
Next step will be to try and press out the rusted shaft from the coupler one way or another. Stay tuned!
