Hello all and thanks in advance for any advice you may have. I have a 1176 evinrude 115 HP 4 cylinder 2 stroke motor on my pontoon boat. I need to remove the throttle cable to be able to redecorating my boat. My question is how do I remove the throttle cables from the throttle control box? Would removing the cables be a better idea? Here are some pics. Thanks again. Gary

Better idea than what?

Remove cables by taking controller apart but you ought to know they have to be re-installed and adjusted by the service book ( which you don't have).

I would remove it at the engine and just roll it up, if you have never been inside a control box there is alot of stuff in there and if you don't get it all back together just right it won't work correctly.

You shoudl be able ot pull the shift and throttle cables with the control, mark the cableas you take them off to avoid confusion later.

Having just been in the remote control of my 1976 Johnson to install a kill switch, you definitely want to stay out of ot if you can help it. Lots going on in there and not a lot of wiggle room. Too easy to get something out of adjustment or snap a wire.
