Hi there, Ihave just installed a new to me power head on this bad boy and decided to do a routine water pump replacement job. However, upon removing the lower unit , and after disconnecting the shift rod which is in the lower unit, I see the connecting nut on the upper rod. I guess i need to remove this nut to get the water pump off. My question is howd do i get this nut looking thing out of the way, so as to slide the pump assemble off the drive shaft. And i dont think a bigger hammer is the answer.

the rod has a expanded end, slide the nut up, you will see a compression type ferrel, just above the expanded end. the ferrel has a slot in one side, spread the ferrel, it will pop off, then the nut will slide down.

don't turn the lower the shift rod, that is the height adjustment.
