Thanks for the feed back earlier on Renken boat issues in rough water. I brought the boat home this weekend and have not finalized the deal but am storing it for the winter at my place. Guy that owns the boat ran out of Yard space. I have it parked next to my 17ft Larson sport boat. The hull design looks similar other than on the Larson the bow hits the waterline at a steeper angle. Since I would be using the boat mostly within Long Island sound (trailering based on good weather day trips)should I see much difference in stability compared to Larson. I like the Performance with the Larson and as Renken is a bigger boat than what I've ever run I dont want to regret it.I have all winter to decide as season is over here. Have read a few comments on off shore discontent problems but interested in what would be considered Off Shore.
Thanks for the any insite

Re: Renken 22ft question

Not exactly sure what you are asking.

I guess I call off-shore when you can go out a few miles and still can't see the other side.

I think you would see a great deal more stability even though I am not familiar with the boats in question. When I think of off-shore, I generally think self bailing cockpits, boats with bows that have a narrow entry to slice the waves, and lots of flair at the deck to divert the spray. I think boats in the low 20 ft range only venture out off-shore on days forecast to be nice.

I fish some in the Chesapeake with a 22 foot cuddy. You don't see too many 17 foot boats out in the middle of the Chesapeake. I generally don't venture out when waves are forecast over 1-2 feet. The waves are never gentle wide spread swells, but seem choppy and close together. I have been out in worse when the forecast was wrong, and over 2 feet I can't run on even a slow plane but have to chug along at about 10-12 mph, and if I try to anchor in it I have had waves break over the bow drenching me and getting a bunch of water down the hatch on the bow.

Not a lot of fun, and makes some of my friends unintentionally start chumming.

Re: Renken 22ft question

Thanks for the insite. Most time out is within a mile or less from shore. mainly in the sound with 1-2 ft seas max otherwize wife and kids are gettin antsy. My guess from what I can tell is that the Renken will perform about the same as what I have seen with my 17ft or better due to size. Unfortunatly got to wait til spring now to find out. Thanks again
