First of all welcome to iboats forum... :welcome:

The fact that you can short across the starter solenoid and crank the engine means the large wired main connection from the battery positive straight to the solenoid is good. But that is where it stops. What you need to do is check when you turn the key (or have someone else turn the key) to the start (not run) position that you have voltage at one of the starter solenoid’s small wire input terminals. One of the starter solenoid small wire terminals should come from the control box while the other wire goes to ground or even a safety switch (sometimes there is a neutral safety switch). If you can’t read that voltage at the starter solenoid when you turn the key to the start position, you have found your problem. Make sure all the connectors are properly plugged in and clean and tight too. If the problem is the lack of voltage at the solenoid, you need to look at the remote control box at the helm. You either have a starter ignition switch problem or the wires going to it or to the starter solenoid... Also check to see if you have a fuse at the motor that allows voltage to flow for the starter to work. It could also be corroded and not making contact all the time... If you do have the voltage at the starter solenoid you have a bad starter solenoid or a bad ground after the solenoid. starter_solenoid.jpg
