Re: Repaint Motor

I used fusion on my cover and the lower unit however, if you bare any aluminum up.....prime it with zinc chromate or the outter layer will not last.

It's all in the prep

I'd avoid the Rustoleum clear. I used it on my last boat and it started flaking off in about a year. The Rustoleum paint worked great though.

Re: Repaint Motor

I used that outboard paint they sell at marina's.

I'd never waste my money doing that again. That stuff doesn't cover for anything it takes 1,000,000 coats and you just know there is no way your not going to drip cause it takes forever.

I'm just saying stick with where your thinking and don't go down that dark useless road.

Every marina and marine store sells rattle cans.

Moeller marine products, it's a acrylic lacquer.

Moeller and Tempo are both rattle cans but here again ...... they work fine ONLY if you properly prime. Trying to use them over painted surfaces is near worthless........ they adhere to chromate primers and themselves on the second coat.

Ther effectiveness is no better then Fusion paint or Rustoleum.....but some people are hung up on the color match ability

rinker....

Do you want to do this unit one time..and one time ONLY ? ( with caviats of cource..)

There IS the RIGHT way ( not fusion or rusto m8 ).

But FIRST that cow should be a different paint then the lower. ...

What is your motor application ? in the drink full for season..or are you pulling it ?

If your full drink then you might want to look at Trilux apps..

Your Cow.. there is the top notch IMron or Awlgrip. .. .. or low ball rattle it..

The time and money will cost you now.... or later... IMO...

YD.

PS. I will tell you Id rather prep and prime a 40' than a chippedoutwheatherdflakingpeaceofdrivefromhellwithtwocoatingsofcrapaintthatIhavetowarrantydrive ... :)

Re: Repaint Motor

I used Moeller on my outboard and I used the same paint on the cowl that I used on my boat and put it on via the roll and tip method. I ordered new graphics from my local screen printer. I sprayed my prop with the Mercury Phantom Black.
