Hey guys need help one more time on paint issues. I'm almost done painting my outboard and i want to put a nice fresh coat of paint on my cowl.

Does it have to be done the same as an outboard or can i just degrease the whole hood, sand the rough spots and paint away since it's not metal?Or do i have to sand the whole cowl and then paint?

I was just going to tape off the decals as they are in perfect shape and paint around them.I just want to put 2 nice thin fresh coats of paint on it.

Any help on this would be great. Thanks

You need to scuff anywhere paint is going, nothing major, just enough to rough it up for the new paint to stick.

I did mine the same way, couldn't find my decals so I just taped them off.

Thanks 5150.So basically degrease, scuff up just a hair to make dust pop off, clean with acetone and paint away.

Good advice. I've used Rust Oleum "Premium" with GREAT results. High shine and durable. However, that was basic white. (Johnson)

If you want to go original color, you have more work. The enamals from the OEM's require more prep and sanding between.
