this is my boat. I am debating rather or not to repaint it. it has the bass boat type glitter finish. parts of the top coat are starting to come off so I am wanting to know if it is better to sand it down to the fiberglass of just get the top coat off. by the way I am going to use auto paint so I can spray it. I already have the equipment. also I can get a better choice of colors. ( its a jetboat I have to make it look cool). another question, how do you get the backs of the seats off in the bow area without destroying them. are they bolted or glued?

Re: Repainting question

If it were me I would sand back and feather the bad areas in the paint and leave the parts of it that are still good, prime it and paint it. I bet it will last longer than you own the boat. If the paint damage is real widespread you may want to consider aircraft or marine paint remover to peel the whole surface. You will have to do some sanding but the removers work well to get the bulk of the paint off.
My bow rider's seat backs are bolted on. The hard part is accessing the bolts. You might try feeling behind them through the storage holds under the seats.
