Last year in April I decided to try fix my seized 4hp Johnson Seahorse. After pulling it apart I realized that water had got into the block at rusted the piston to the Cylinder wall. In the process i broke one piston ring and after travelling to a marine shop was informed that a replacment would cost $60.00 for the ring and $80.00 for the gaskets.

Now my motor is still sitting in pieces in my garage and I am wonted to know.

If the motor is worth paying $140.00 to fix?

If i do try to reasemble the motor would it still work?

Also how long would it take and how complicated would it be to fix?

Please help.

Thank you

You don't say how old the motor is or how long it has sat. But if it has sat long enough to rust up a cylinder, I would venture to say you will have more problems than what you already know about. It would be a gambol and I don't think the odds are in your favor. This is just my opinion.

60 for a ring and 80 for gaskets what are they made of gold that seems way to high. look around should not cost more then 30-40 total for parts. look at napa.

The motor is a 83 model and it rusted as water got into the block after my son tipped the motor upside down. I live in Australia so were is the cheapest place to buy the parts?

Another thing. This motor was a friend of mines and he used it as a 2nd motor an a sailing boat so it was used very little perhaps 20hrs before it was seized.
