In this video I show the wobble in the Armature Plate. How to remove the plate without removing the coils or points. The Fix, and And reassemble the armature plate on the engine. Along with the engine running after the fix.
Sure hope that this helps someone with the same problem I had.

Here?s the link on Youtube:

I would think that this would work on any small Johnson or Evinrude engine of 1 or 2 cylinder.
Used in this video was a 15HP Evinrude, Model 15016 Fastwin.

Sorry guy's, it's not the 3-6-9-12 method!

If anyone has a worn brass ring they would like to donate, I’ll try doing another video showing the 3-6-9-12 method by Joe Reeves

Nice video, a couple of thoughts.
The points should hold their setting unless you moved the mounting screw for the points.
If you take a couple of long screws, I use ones about 3 inches long, and grind or cut the heads off you can install them in the ring and set the mag plate down over them. Use the short screw holes and when you get the long screws started, just remove the long screws and install the short screws. Makes it real easy to align the mag plate.

Re: Repair Video of wobble armature plate

great informative vids...but the title for this thread is a bit misleading, its not an actual repair, but it does show how to get at the brass ring in a very informative manner! you could post another vid using the same motor for the joe reeves method.....just showing how, but not actually employing the hammer! ( i recently used joes method on a 1957 5.5, and it works great, but the brass ring is quite soft and needs only gentle taps at the 3-6-9 and 12 o'clock positions. i thought i was being gentle, but had to undo some of what i did as the throttle became to stiff to turn after the first attempt)

Re: Repair Video of wobble armature plate

When I started the video my intentions was to do the 3-6-9-12 by Joe, but the brass ring showed very little ware and the aluminum ring was the problem being installed upside-down. So I went with that!
As for focus, I tried auto-focus, but the darn thing kept focusing on the wrong stuff. Manual focus worked somewhat better, but holding the camera in one hand, viewing the image, and turning a screw with the other was a bit difficult. Tripod wasn’t tall enough.

If anyone has a worn out brass ring for a 1956 15HP they would like to donate, I’d be more than happy to redo the video showing the 3-6-9-12 method by Joe R. I can’t see doing that to my brass ring that A OK.

as mentioned, i thought both of your vids were very well done!! ( could be posted in the top secret file). if you do ever pull the flywheel again, make a vid of the "joe reeves" method without actually tapping the brass ring with a hammer and screwdriver....just some marks with a sharpie and some narration would be great for anyone with the same problem. all in all, your vids are a great contribution to the forum!
