I have about a 6-8 inch cut in the hull (right where floor meets hull at edge, as it occurred during floor replacement) that I patched from the outside recently, but I want to patch from inside. I need to remove a section of the floor to get to it.

How do I approach cutting into the floor so that I can patch it and have a strong patch job? Can I just cut a small rectangle out of the floor just to provide enough access to get to the damaged hull and then glass the rectangle back in??

Thanks.

Yes, and no. You'll have to really seal up the wood where you cut the hole in the deck well to avoid that spot from being a problem area in the future from rot, but otherwise you have the right idea... You'll want to support the wood from underneath if there is clearance. You may even want to cut the piece out using a kerf cut, so the wood naturally can support itself. Like this "___\\_cut out section_//____"
