Repairing teak inlay on swim platform???

I have a 2007 Monterey that has a fiberglass swimplatform with inlay teak. The teak boards are each seperated by what looks like black rubber and then around all the outer edges is a black caulk.. The whole teak area is shaped, rounded, straight, etc. There are a few sections what you might call rounded corners where the teak is starting to lift and when I step on the area water will come out.

Now, I figure I have to dry the area and then glue it somehow with weight on top, dry and then recaulk the outer edges.

What glue should I use and what black caulk should I use?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

Welcome to iboats!

Have you ever seen neoprene chauling in a tube? I have used that on my truck window and wow is that stuff tough. I got mine at tractor supply but I have no idea how it would hold in a marine application. I do know that everything must be absolutely dry...... and I am not sure of teak.

Perhaps YachtDr will chime in. I bet he knows what would work.

Hello Sauerzbr..

Pics are good :)

Are you sure its not Flexi teak ?

If it is indeed Teak..then get a blowgun and target that area. Get under it dry making sure your not blowing up the rest of your teak :) . Syringe some acetone under the wood ( first make sure it wont attack your caulk ) and blow that in and out of there a couple times. Tape up the teak and glass seams then inject some black 5200 .. use a putty knife or something like that to really get it under your wood.

There is a caulk from boat life..but Ive not had too much luck with that. use whatever matches better for your outside caulk.. IE boatlife..5200 or silicone.

Not sure what flexi teak is, maybe the synthetic stuff? This is real teak, turns a gray color after a while.

5200 Marine sealant... Did I read you correctly that I should use this under the teak to glue it down and also if it matches my other black caulk, I can use it on the outer edges to seal as well? I'm assuming that when dry it's still a bit flexible?

Thanks for your insight, really appreciate your time in answering my questions.

Hello again..

Could you post a picture please..

Can you see any plugs in the surface that would hide screws ?

yes flexi teak is synthetic ..

Amendment .. if it is teak then you might also want to add a screw or 2 in the corners..

Its just hard to tell without some pics ..

there are adhesives made for use with teak. it's been awhile, can't remember the manufacturer. west marine had a selection of different adhesives.
