I have an aluminum 21" OEM prop thats too large for the 125 Force. If I ask a prop rebuilder to lower it to 19", can I be confident in the workmanship?

Re: Repitching alu. prop

best you will get is 1" change in pitch. This will add 150-200rpms to motor.

corm, can they cut off a little, rebalance it and end up with 19". 1" less is still too large.

Re: Repitching alu. prop

i dont know too much about the al props, but a shop will take a stainless down or up 2" in effective pitch. Understand that they cant really re-pitch a prop, they just bend the blades a little, which lets the engine turn faster. some think it ruins the design of a prop to do this, and leads to easier cavitation, etc. An aluminum prop is so cheap that I wouldnt mess with it, just buy a new or used one of the right pitch.

Re: Repitching alu. prop

Hi,
No, they can't. A lot of good rebuild shops won't try for 2"s do to what mbb says in his post about deforming the blade shape.
It has been my experiance that they don't work on High Preformance rigs. If you cut the dia down you may not have enough blade surface area to hold the boat while on plane.
It is easier to pith up a smaller prop because you are increaseing the rake of the prop while adding an inch or 2 to the prop.
If your prop shop thinks they can do 2"s try it, as your prop don't work right now anyway.
Just don't expect a miracal. They can do it better to a 11 degree rake prop than a 15 degree rake. 20 degree rake props get wrecked IMHO.
Hope it works for you.
...have fun...corm

I agree with Corm. My Prop shop told me that they can successfully pitch up but pitching down can cause all sorts of blade distortion and they don't recommend it. I would spend the money on another prop rather than trying to re-configure your present one.
