I plan to buy a brand new yamaha motor to replace my trouble 1965 75HP Evinrude outboard motor. I need help to decide how much horse power does the boat needs. Is 50HP 4 cycle outboard motor good for my boat ( 16'). Please advise.

well not knowing what boat you have, no way to answer. your 75 is probably putting out at the prop, about 65-70 hp, so you can guage by that. also make sure your transon is in superior shape, for the weight difference.

What's the trouble with the 75hp? That is the simplest of motors to work on.
