Guys has anyone tried replacing the old 2gc carbs with a 4mv? I have a 165 6 cylinder that need the carb replaced. Wondering if I would do better putting a 4bl on it.

1978 Merc 165 6 cylinder.

Yes it can be done.the plate on the manifold is the same bolt pattern as 4Barrel.You'll have to make a new pivot anchor for the cable and redo the fuel line.We used a stud and went through the valve cover& epoxyed in place to seal it.It added some HP but ran so much better.

I also have the IL6. Rickles, you say it ran better? How so? Mine runs great with the 2bbl. How much HP did you gain?
