What would it take to replace a 1999 4.3 Mercruiser with a 5.0 (1996) OMC/Volvo. This is a Ford 302 block. I dont want to mees with the outdrive. Thanks

"5.0 (1996) OMC/Volvo. This is a Ford 302 "

I must say, I don't know volvos, but thought ford was out of the marine engine business, before that. Are you sure of the year and engine make? Is distributer in front or back of engine?

Even if it is a GM 5.0L, not sure its worth the effort. Might as well go for a 5.7L. A 4.3 vortec vs 305 non-vortec, not much, if any, improvement.

John, 1996 was the last year Volvo used the Ford engines. It was a holdover of the Volvo/OMC joint venture. As soon as Volvo bought out OMC completely, they dropped the Fords.
