Interested in doing some night fishing. I was wondering if it is legal to replace the bow light w/ another stern light while anchored. I know the written rules of night boating and have the reqiured lignting while under way, but was looking for a way of adding more light while anchored.

Light that puppy up.

As long as you have the proper anchor light, and are at anchor, turn on what ever you want to illuminate your boat.

That is a really good idea, thanks for the thought. A lot of places where I boat have high traffic at night and I am always a little uneasy about being visable enough. I think I'll do the same thing.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. I thought it should be okay, but wanted some reassurance. Thanks, again! ;) ;)

Check the rules for anchored boats. I believe (but I'm not certain) that a single light is specified.

If you need more light, use a higher powered anchor light and/or raise it up higher with a longer pole.

I understand that an anchor light is required when away from the dock. This indicates a non-moving boat. The bow lights when moving lets others know which direction up are traveling. This is what is stated in the boating booklet passed out the the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources. It is vague as to additional lighting requirements. Look at ocean liners with lighted cabins, lights strung from end to end, and an anchor light if anchored. Would that be wrong.

Live in Wi also. Put any white light out when anchored. A mistake alot of people do is leave their bow lights on when anchored. I sometimes hang a Coleman lantern or a rechargeable lantern from a neat setup that attaches to one of my boat cleats.
