Replace carpet or use non slip??

I am in need of some new carpet inside my boat. Should I order new Capet and adhesive or use a non slip stuff and roll it on? I am shooting for the non slip and I won't have to worry about water sitting in the carpet and rotting my floor. I would like the water to just roll into my bilge..p.s it's. A18 foot chap open bow

I've got a thread going now on my 20' Chap open bow, I pulled out the carpet from rear seat bases back because water always sits there, that solved the moldy carpet issue but water still pool in the very back, anyhow under the carpet on my Chap was pretty nice, looks like plywood with a layer of fiberglass cloth and then painted grey.

So what should I do. Replace the whole boat with new carpet since it's warn or tear it out and paint down non slip?

Why not do both?
Years ago I removed the old glue-down carpet, painted the deck with non-skid, then cut carpet to fit. I added perimeter binding and snaps. The carpet was then easy to remove when needed.
It was nice to have each option depending on how the boat was used.

I would tear out the carpet and paint the deck, then if you want fit a nice piece of carpet that you can put in and pull out fastened the edges with velcro, then you have the best of both worlds.

Awsome what is great stuff to use? As far as deck non skid? Any stuff on the cheaper side? But good? Thanks guys..I'm excited to get her looking good

If yours looks anything like mine did under the carpet you wont need non slip just paint, mine is plywood with a layer of fiberglass mat with heavy rovings so it's already got a texture to it, you just have to scrape it down and get the old carpet glue off.
Here's a pic of what it will look like after the glue removal if it's built anything like my chapparal.

I think it is better if you replace it with a new carpet. Ask the help of the carpet services near your place. In order for them to help you on the carpet replacing.

I bought a 2 part industrial epoxy from my local Sherwin-Williams paint store and added sand when mixing. It was a lot cheaper than buying from a marine retailer and held up just fine.

Durabak is a great product, you can view results in my Bayliner resto-mod thread in link below... I had snap-in carpet made after I painted the deck... On my current boat I took the carpet out, and never put it back in... Much easier to keep clean...

Really depends on your needs. To me, carpet, while aggravating to maintain, feels really, really nice on the feet. Depending on the contours of you boat and what all is carpeted though, it can be a difficult job to replace. If it's a simple layout with not many angled/curves (ie, if you're just doing the floor and no sidewalls), then I'd probably recarpet. If it's complex, I might would either to the non-slip route, or best of both worlds - tear it all out, non-slip the sides, console, and other difficult spots, and then just do carpet on the floors only.
