I have been working on a 1969 Johnson 20 hp, got it started yesterday after some effort.
It wouldn't start unless choked and full throttle.
anything less and it hiccups, but wont start. It sounded really good once it started though.
It has a rebuilt/resealed lower unit, new water pump, new fuel pump, and rebuilt carb.
I ordered new points and condensers/breakers today. The coils are my debate. They were covered in Brown globby stuff, as are the points, and pretty much everything under the flywheel. I cleaned most of the stuff up. but $20 for new points, I figured why not.
The wiring for the coils are still pretty soft, and I cannot see any visible cracks, but mind you, they were covered in goop. Think I should replace them for peace of mind? or are they fine?
