do i have to take the piston housing off the motor to install a new rod?? any easy way?? thanx for your help!!

First of all check to make sure the crank brg. surface and the cylinder wall are ok. Also check for cracks in the block. Then split the motor, pull the head and push the piston out the top. I have found in most cases where a con rod broke the motor was now a boat anchor. I think you also have to release the valve spring pressure by compressing the springs with the valves in the closed (down) position and remove the retaining clip.

In My experince,........<br /><br />If a Tecumseh needs That much of a Repair,........<br /><br />Replacement motors are only about $300.00,.......<br /><br />The Repair just Isn't Cost Effective.........
