Replace frozen steering cable 1993 Trophy WA

Frozen steering cable. Not at the motor tube but within the cable. Rack and pinion Telex 16 foot, ssc13416. Question does it remove from front or back? I have tried both. The tight corner at the starboard live well is my issue. I can't get the 20 inch solid motor section or the rack and pinion section past it. Anyone with experience with this boat had this issue?? At this point I'm thinking of carving up the live well to solve it. Any suggestions?
I have tried soaking the cable to free it, simply because I can't get it out.

The cable sheath tends to harden over time.

Probably easier to cut the cable with a hack saw to remove

Sometimes the rack portion of the cable unscrews from the cable. That would make it easier to get around that corner.

I ended up cutting a chunk out of the starboard fish box to remove the old. It certainly made the new one a breeze to put in. Now I need to relearn how to work with fiberglass to repair the fishwell..

I feel your pain. I think when they build some boats they start with the steering cable and build the rest of the boat around it.

Hack saw the old cable, pull out what is left, replace it with hydraulic steering. Check some of the newer models with a two piece tilt tube rod.
