replace o ring on female gas tank fitting?

I need to replace a cracked o ring on a female metal gas tank fitting. Does the fitting come apart somehow? Or can you just pry the o ring out and replace?

Mercury would like you to but the whole fitting but I do know a couple people that shoved the ball in and changed the o ring although I don't know where they got the o ring

It always looked to me like the female gas fitting should come apart some kind of way but I am sure you are correct that Mercury would rather you buy another fitting!
