Re: replace or not? (wood transom)
I can't answer that for you becasue I don't know your demeanor.
For example, my father in law always insisted that he had to travel with his outboard in full up position, even though the aluminum transom showed signs of cracks. I warned him, but he said he wasn't worried about it.....of course he never worried about anything. While pulling one of his grandkids on skiis, the transom fell out and the boat sank.
Two years ago when i replaced my motor, the wood part of the transom on my tinny showed rot so I replaced it. It was merely riveted and bolted in places. I got a remnant piece of marine plywood at a lumber yard for 10 bucks, new bolts cost a few more bucks and it took me maybe 2 hours to cut, drill, bolt and paint the new piece of wood. Where safety is concerned, it is my concern. Would the transom have fallen off?....probably not. Am I worried?.....not now!
