I just got a new 70HP Yamaha F70LA and thought my old steering would bolt right up. I was wrong. The old steering (see Photo) had a bracket that bolted to the front of my old 90HP Yamaha but on the new motor (see second photo) those bolt holes aren't there. I need a way to make the old system work or an inexpensve new steering system. I spoke to Gary McMath at sea star and he told me not only did I need a new cylinder but my helm and cables were now useless to me too and I needed a whole new system. Needless to say, if I need a new system it will not be a SeaStar Hydraulic.

I just gotta get back on the water with my new motor. Any help?

Well, unless someone gives me a better idea I think I'll go with a new, simple Uflex Rotary steering system. The price is right and I think for a small boat I'm better off staying away from Seastar.
