replace shaft bearings Minn Kota trolling motor

The upper shaft bearing (not motor bearings) in my Minn Kota AT40 5 speed foot control cable steer trolling motor (wow-that's a mouthful) is gone, nothing remaining but the bearing cage and a couple of ball bearings. Steering has been erratic, to say the least. The lower bearing seems OK, but I wouldn't be adverse to replacing it if it had to come out anyway.

Does anyone have any experience doing this? It looks like a fairly straight-forward procedure, but I don't want to get into something better left to professionals. I found enough online to know how to take the cable off and re-adjust it, but that's about all I found.

Thanks,

John

Re: replace shaft bearings Minn Kota trolling motor

I've gotten the main shaft out of the outer tube, and the bearings off (on the above described trolling motor). How do I get the races out of the outer tube?

OR, determine if the races need replacing?

Can anyone help me here?

Thanks,

John

No one has ever done this? Remove the races?
