Took my boat to a mechanic because the hot horn was going off. He said was power pack and replaced it.
Now the boat has no power.(Ran fine before)Wont get past 2,000 rpms.
Starts up fine.
Took it on the lake today and its not getting hot and no horn now.
Checked the cylinders and feels like the port side 3 are cooler than the others.
Symptoms are... When its at idle,I hear a hesestation ,like a skip, when I give it throttle its doing the same thing.
Thought maybe was in slow mode. Can I unhook the temp sender wires when not running with key on and ground them? Then the horn should sound right?

Any thoughts would be great.

Well if it was running good when the horn sounded, it should not have been the power pack. Possibly an overheat alarm.(thermostat)

Take it back and have him correct the wiring(likely issue) on the new power pack or re-install your old one.

It would be prudent to learn what the alarms mean and examine things yourself when you have an issue, even if relying on someone else to service for you.

How could he hook the power pack up wrong?
Would that make it skip and have no power?

looks all right to me,have the boat sitting outside.

If the wires separated from the plug, and it does happen easily. They may be in the wring order.

The way your post reads, the motor WAS running ok before the change. Am I mistaken? If so, either the New power pack is defective(not impossible) or the wiring got crossed up.

Some of the plugs are not firing or firing at the wrong time.

Another poster had that same problem. Look through today's post. http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=350540

Or maybe it is the plug wires themselves that got crossed.

Top and bottom plug are definitely not firing or firing at the wrong time.(crossed coils) Center appears to be firing correctly.

If it were mine I would clean, leave connected but out, turn motor to verify spark. If ok install and change coil trigger wires. Test. But you have to decide. As I said, if it ran ok before - the mechanic should correct.

Have a diagram and something dont look right how the orange wires are hook to the coils... Facing the engine..what order do the orange coil wires go?

Think someone had them crossed... I redone them ( Had wires crossed on 1 and 5

Can anyone tell me if this is right in the picture?

Check the wiring from the pack to the coils: The solid orange coil wire is for the center plug. The orange wire with blue tracer is for the top plug, and the orange wire with the green tracer is for the bottom plug. Looks to be OK from your picture. Are both sides the same? You can check each plug wire for proper spark with an inductive timing light. It will show misfires and no fires in the flashes from the timing light.

Looks like you may have it. Time to test. make sure those plugs are really clean or replace first.
