I replaced the transom bracket shift cable, the red updated type. I followed the instructions to the letter. I read pages and articles on the subject. All went well. All parts are good condition. Square surfaces easy movement by hand.

I still sometimes have to cut the engine to come out of forward. The interupter works fine. The engine almost dies while trying to shift but still it is not operating correctly. All adjustments are exact to the procedure. Even while in the timing retarf mode it still just wont come out of gear correctly.

Please help. I know lots of you guys have figured out how to tweak this drive. Thanks

Sometimes the problem is just a worn cosole control. Too much slop! Also, make sure the cable from the cosole control is supported the entire length to the stern. Tie wrap it in place as much as you can. That will get rid of a lot of lost motion in the cable.
