Replaced my old valve body with a new one today but now it won't tilt down. Tilts up fine, and will still slowly bleed down but when I press the down button the motor runs and it drops about an inch but no more and the motor keeps whirring.

I realised that it was tilted at about 45 degrees (supported by the transom saver) when I did the replace and refill. Maybe I have an air lock?,

Not sure what to do... I've let it leak down a few times and tilted it back up, hoping to bleed out air, but no luck.

Jiggz put a post about the tests for the system.
It goes through 2 procedures.
One for the trim and 1 for the tilt.

If you put in a new pump it shouldn't leak all the way down.
Shouldn't leak ANY!!
Maybe it's bad.
Send it back.

You make sure the area was SPOTLESSSSS??? A tiny piece of dirt can hurt the performance.
The "air lock" is removed by what your doing. Running it removes the air.

You lubricate the rams and tilt bar?

I have not performed the test because I wanted to replace my old valve body anyway... one of the ports is partially stripped and leaks oil.

Both tilt and trim were leaking down, but with the new VB only the tilt does, which suggests that its leak is in the cylinder. Low priority for me, but I do have the seal kits and will do at the end of the season. Removing the bottom tube on the tilt looks like a beast though.

But anyway, this was done outside on the boat in the driveway, definitely not sterile. Judging by the inside of the old VB there's a lot of sludge in the system. Maybe that's the problem.

But I think I'll remove the new VB and try again with the motor down and see if that resolves it.

Will perform lubrication too, though that's not the current problem since it worked before the swap.

Hoping it's not a DOA Chinese VB :(

Looks like a DOA valve body. Both tilt and trim would go up but not down. Put the old one back on and it works fine.

Guess I'll have to send it back.
