replacement engine 1989 140hp evinrude

Hi, I have a question here. I have a 1994 Boston whaler rage 14 jet with 90hp. the engine was broken so my friend and I put in a 1989 140 HP evinrude outboard engine head in it. it fit in nicely. However, the boat can only run at 10mph even at WOT. My friend suggest that maybe the the outboard engine doesn't work well on jet pump. what do you think?

btw anyone here have a service manual for the evinrude engine? Thanks

The 140 you put on it was a looper and you need a cross-flow power head. You might have an exhaust problem. Just a guess. Are you sure it was a 140 ??

yes. we took it out of the outboard, it is a 140.

Is it a looper or a cross flow. ?? Could you post a pic of it ??
