Hello all, When I was putting my 48 special to bed for the winter I noticed that I did not get the familiar warning tone every time I turned the key to start her up. It would beep every few key turns, but not every time. I wiggled the horn itself (it's under the dash and not in the control box) and then heard something loose inside the unit rattle around. It beeped again on the next restart, but at a greatly reduced volume. I know now that it is a defective unit. Is there a website where I can get a replacement? Or do I have to take a trip to the local Jonnyrude dealer?

Thanks for the help! :)

Fireship

Re: Replacement hot horn for 96 Evinrude 48 SPL

Hey Rodbolt, It's a two wire horn. I have been trying to find a place to get one online, but no luck as of yet. Another thing has me puzzled. I have what seems to be two signal horns under my dash. One large unit (the one that has trouble) and one smaller unit. Since my engine was not equipped with a VRO from the factory what is the second warning horn used for? The only thing I could figure is they used some type of generic harness kit for Evinrude engines. I have some loose harness plugs that are taped up here and there. So I figure it's a standard modular harness. I'm not the original owner of this boat, so it's kind of a mystery. Any thoughts?

Thanks!
Fireship

Only one warning horn for 48SPL's and that's overheat. Could the boat have been rigged at one time with an engine equipped with VRO? You can get a replacement horn at any John/Rude dealer.
