Hi,

I'd like to thank everyone here for years of great evinrude hydro-electric shift advise! I was idling at the dock, and had my motor shift itself into forward. Also got a nasty burn smell. Well, lots of meter work later I found that the reverse (lower) solenoid has a nice 6ohm to ground on it, but the top one gets 0.7 at best, smells like something nasty and burnt, and the meter goes nuts monitoring voltage on the green wire. Found a break in the insulation on the green wire too, just before it enters the solenoid housing.

So... I need a new solenoid for neutral (green wire). The dealer just told me $160 for the part. Any advise here?

Thanks everyone!

Jesse

I've got a pair from a triple (55/60/65) that are in real good shape, ohm out correctly, have the full cover & leads, and are cheap (I bought them thinking they were same as those for the V4s). Email jslobvan@comcast.net. My apologies for offering something for sale on the iboats board, but I figured iboats probably doesn't have them, & they are not doing me any good.
