I read that in 86 OMC Cobra's mounted to the same opening as the Mercruiser outdrive.

Has anyone every swapped the OMC out for the Alpha 1? What was entailed, and what did it cost?

In the case of this is not possible, what is the state of parts and mechanics for the 86 and newer outdrive?

Thanks for the feedback,

Sam

OMC used the same cutout in the transom as Mercruiser, even the bolts line up.
Everything else is different.
Just remove everything that is OMC, and put in Mercruiser stuff.
Cost depends on year, model, number of cylinders, new or used..

Don is right.

If you decide to use a Bravo, You'll have to drill 2 additional holes in the cutout at the top. 6 bolts on the Alpha & Cobra. 8 bolts on the Bravo.

You will also probably have to relocate the forward engine mounts forward or aft a couple inches.

I will have to move the 454 mounts about 3 inches forward of the original 460 mounts in my Four Winns to install the Mercruiser/Bravo

Cheers,

Actually,...... The Alpha 1, Gen.II needs those Extra Holes as well.........

Evidently the earlier Alphas only had 6 bolts?
