replacing bad vro with vacume fuel pump on 87 v6 omc

My vro quit working on my 1987 2.7l sea drive finding a new one has been a bad experiance. Is there an alternative like replacing the vro with a evinrude or snowmobile vacume fuel pump and premixing the gas? any suggestions
