Hi, This late Fall, I need to replace my block. 5.7 liter 350 SB. The base engine I will get has the block and heads. (Vortec). I will reuse the rest of the parts from the existing motor, 1 year old. Bad winterizing. My question. When transferring the distributor, should I mark it and set it in a particular way, so as to get roughly the same position on the new engine? Thanks Roman

This is a 350 5.7 L Vortec with fuel injection.

The dizzy can be put in the manifold in any position, but you will have to find where #1 is. Best thing is to bring old motor up to TDC on the compression stroke. Then mark the dizzy position on the manifold and the rotor position on the dizzy.

And the timing WILL need to be set after you get it running, with a timing light.

What year is it? Can you list the serial #?

If its 2001 or newer you dont have to set the timing. Just find TDC on #1,line up the rotor to the tang and drop it in.

It's a 2010 Marine Power. It has EFI and MEFI 4th generation controller. I think the only thing you need to do is set the base timing with a little tool that shorts something out. I will get that correct by the time I get to that part.
Thanks Roman

There is a link to the service manual in the above link I provided that explains exactly how to do it...

Re: Replacing Base Engine: Distributor Advice

Following the Mercruiser instructions to set the distributor isn't going to help much if his Marine Power engine doesn't use the same distributor as Merc does, and I know for a fact that in the past Marine power setups are NOT the same as Merc or Volvo.
