I am replacing my garboard drain plug assembly and notice there is no drain tube or anything in the transom, is this correct? The sealant on the outside is old and a new assembly needs to be installed but there is no tube, just a hole straight through the transom into the bilge......should i be concerned?

There won't be any "tube" per se...but you want to be sure that any exposed wood is properly sealed.

When I removed my garboard flange for resealing, I examined the drilled hole for any transom wood that was not sealed. There will be water in your bilge for all sorts of reasons, and you do not want this water to contact any unprotected wood ever. My drilled hole had been lined with some sort of epoxy, and that was all that I was looking for.

Happy boating!

When I bought my used boat, I found the drain plug just as you described.

Not having any knowledge or experience with fiber-glassing, I used a bronze splash well drain tube that the garboard drain fit into. I cut the drain tube to length, mated the two and seal everything with 5200.

The resin-epoxy will come later when I mix it up to patch a bit.
