The project in question Alpha one-1. started with a bellows leak and now includes LOTS more. This was a small leak that went un-noticed for some time. Noticed a little water in the bilge every so often and didn't think much of it, planned on checking into it this fall. Lesson learned-do not wait, it will be too late. Outdrive being replaced with SE106.

I have purchased the engine alignment tool for $55 (EBAY).
I have been reading the post here and am thinking that I can get by with only buying this alignment tool and converting my pulley puller into a bearing puller - or renting a puller.
Hinge tool-looks like I can make something work, bearing pusher-same, bellows install tool-lots of work without it mabee, but now my wallet is very thin (see thru).
Any one want to throw any suggestions on what to look out for or helpfull hints regarding the fun endeavor I will be starting?
R&R of drive, replacing bellows gimble bearing, that nuckle busting sort of fun stuff that we all live for...

Get a factory manual. You don't need a bellows tool. While you have it apart change the shift cable and bellows.
The main thing is take your time and if something doesn't seem right STOP!!!

Shift cable too? Wow this is getting into my beer money. This job is NOT going to be fun.
I really appreciate the advise. It makes sence.

Just rebuild mine over the winter. I fought with the exhaust bellows for a long time before I finally bought the tool. Certainly made it easier. Not sure how others do it without one. I followed the manual step by step to make sure the clamps are put in the right positions or you will never be able to get at them to tighten. Just some suggestions.

kmuir2108 & jerryjerry05, Thanks a lot for your input. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have been reading that the exhaust tube, rather than bellows, my be the way to go. kmuir2108 it sounds like you did not go that route. It (Tube) does not sound like an expensive part, and may be an easier installation??.. Do you think it is worth an extra $10- $15 (guessing-I have no idea), any info out there?
What I have on order is the bellows and with the $ situation I will probably stick to it. If this "Tube" is a much easier part to insall and has a positive effect as far as reliability and other factors, I may sway that way (out with more beer money).
Knowing there is a good and bad with all things, any suggestions or experiences?

The tube installation is simple & you dont have to worry about it pulling off when trimmed all the way up like the bellows might. the only negative is a little more exhaust noise with the tube.

I never used the tube. Did not know there was something else. I had to replace all of the bellows as they were all rotten when I purchased the boat. If it make sense, go for it. Might be easier and cheaper.

Thanks to all for feedback.
I was able to get some of the dis-assembly done.
For the Hinge pins, I used a bolt w/ 2 nuts jammed together.
It sounds like I was very lucky on this as they came right out, no heat needed on this one. I guess mine was built on a Friday or they were out of Locktight!
Special tool needed for removing shift cable (super deep socket). welded 2 sockets together (now need new sockets).
Discovered that the shift shaft seal was very worn, so another search for parts & more beer $ spent! Think I will keep the exhaust bellows that is still on order.

The bellows will make the exhaust much quieter. I bought the bellows tool also and used it. I have no idea how it can be done without the tool!
Just remember B.O.A.T. = Break Out Another Thousand. ;)

I switched from the bellows to the tube this year. It's a little louder at idle (and churns a little more water), but I honestly can't tell any difference in the noise level while underway. I kinda like the sound of it actually and it is soooooo much easier to install.

Thunderroad, I am starting to see the light on this tube. I have all of the bellows out now and can see it is going to be a pain getting them back in.
Did you purchase the tube locally or on-line? I have not priced it out or searched yet.
Is it worth tossing the new bellows (still has not arrived) and purchasing?
