I have a VIP trailer with an Atwood hydraulic drum brake actuator. I need to service/replace the brake master cylinder. I have been trying to the master cylinder off the trailer for some time now and there just isn't enough room to get it out of the tounge... Any tips on how to get the little shock/damper out of the way. I tried loosening the exposed nut for the damper and the whole shaft on the damper just spins..

Any tips or hints would be appreciated, I don't think VIP would manufacture the trailer in a way that you couldn't service the master cylinder...

Thanks for your help!!

You will need to remove the whole assemble from the tounge before you can get at it to do the job right. Other wise it's a real struggle. :(
Most trailers are done that way so all you have to do replace the whole assembley insead of servicing it. Some times it's alot safer to replace it rather then fix it as there is always a lot crud in the bottom of the mater cyclinder that tends to screw up the wheel cyclinders as well. So if you replace the master assembley you might want to think about overhauling the wheel cyclinders too. That way you WILL know that everything is 100% going to stop when you want it too!
