I finally got my 1976 Seahorse to start up today after both the carbs where broken down and cleaned and assembled with new gaskets. Now my engine is not pissing. My buddy saw dirt and bits shoot out of the **** hole. So now I am going to try and drop the lower unit and inspect the water tubes and water pump. But my question is, how far does the lower unit need to be lowered in order for it to come off completely. My engine is still on my boat and I have about 7 inches of clearance from the bottom to the ground.

Alot more than 7 inchs., tilt your engine and then pull the lower unit off.

If I tilt the engine, won't that mess everything up?
