Can anyone offer any type of instructions etc as to the proper way to install a new impeller for my 1975 Ted Williams motor Model# 217/585880 S/N 6D061379. The engine runs great and I hate to mess up by getting in over my head and ruining a good little engine. I have a diagram and parts list I down loaded from www3.sears.com but it is not of the best quality. also I have ordered the impeller from sears..expect delivery anyday. After the impeller is installed how can I tell if its working properly. Any info, pictures, instructions would be greatly appreciated...I have been on e-bay, to the public library, google.com and have run into walls as far as finding manuals for this motor..any info about manuals would be welcome. Some of these questions, I know, are pretty dumb to some of you guys but I am very new at this and completely removed from my comfort zone.
Thanks for your help

Re: Replacing impeller

That motor wll run without but runs better with. It just cools the exhaust. I recall just two attaching points of the gearcase. The one in front is covered with a small clip. You almost can't install the impeller wrong, the vanes will correct themselves as soon as the shaft starts to spin. But pay attention to the rotation of the flywheel (and thus the driveshaft) and twist the driveshaft that way as you push the pump housing down over the impeller. The fun will come when you put the gearcase back on. It can be a bit frustrating to get the driveshaft into the crankshaft and the waterpipe into the pump.

Re: Replacing impeller

You will. In about 6 months if you use it. What a chintzy excuse for an impeller. If you run without it the exhaust tube gets stinking hot, the grease boils out of the steering swivel, and the powerhead is like sitting on a hot stove which overheats it.
