Hey fellows. Got my outdrive off for a engine alignment. Also ordered a new impeller kit. Question is should I pull the lower half of the drive off while it's off the boat or put it back on the boat then pull the lower half

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Most folks would rather wrestle it on the bench, rather than on the boat,.....

I do it either way that needs doin',....
On the boat is fine by me,....
Standin' the upper, upside-down, 'n lowerin' the lower unit in, is another way,...

Yeah on the bench, I made a holder by bolting a couple of 2X4's to the bench so I can mount the upper upside down, WAY easier, to slide the lower down onto the upper, put the nuts for the studs in position before you lower it down. Only thing you need to do if it is an Alpha 1 is make sure the ss washer under the intermediate shift shaft is glued in place with a dab of grease or bellows cement so that it does not fall off and roll under the bench (like mine did the first time). Good luck.
